Best 5 Tips on Writing a Catchy Title for Essays
It’s a shame that sometimes, your best work and effort for your essay will be thrown out the window because you didn’t bother with a catchy title. That’s why it’s important to put in the extra effort and research to come up with an interesting and creative title that grabs people’s attention. Here are five tips on how to write the perfect Essay Title!
- Produce Something Memorable:
It’s easy to write a title that is creative and interesting; however, what if it doesn’t grab people’s attention? Instead of coming up with something original, try coming up with something that reminds people of your essay. For example, “The Smooth Operations of M. Night Shyamalan” would catch people’s attention but could also be very confusing to the reader; “Francis Ford Coppola and the Cult of Personality” provides another example.
2. Avoid Being Too Long:
Don’t go on a rant and make your title everything but the point. It’s okay to give a slogan for your essay or summarize the central thesis of your essay but only use these techniques sparingly. Don’t clog up the title with too much information because that would be distracting from what you’re trying to say.
3. Think in Abstracts:
If you’re writing an essay about a particular time period, think back to what was happening at that time. What were the issues and events that were impacting everyone? Use these abstracts to your advantage and come up with a creative title that will help people understand what you’re trying to say.
4. Be Clear:
This may seem contradictory to being catchy but it’s important to be clear with your title. Don’t use some random word or phrase that could be easily confused with another word or phrase. This will only confuse people, making them wonder what you’re trying to say in your essay.
5. Don’t Overdo the Hype:
With all the hype in today’s world, it’s hard to come up with a title that isn’t cliché or overused. Don’t worry about including strange phrases or using big words in your essay title if you don’t have to. Just because there’s a lot of attention on a certain topic doesn’t mean that you have to use the same title when writing about it. Using more than one word in a title is acceptable if they’re all related and make sense together, but don’t use words only to make the title longer.
