Developmental Disability in the movie Boys Next Door

Developmental Disability in the movie “Boys Next Door.”

Instructions

Paper Guidelines

This assignment involves watching a movie and writing a 5-page paper (NOT INCLUDING cover page and reference page) analyzing its portrayal of disability and the impact of development. The goal of this paper is to integrate and apply your knowledge of development and how disability impacts that development as portrayed in the media. You are to watch a movie “Boys Next Door” that includes a major character living with a disability or a serious health condition.
1. Provide an introduction that includes a brief description of the person with a disability or health condition whose “story” is presented. Provide a thesis that identifies the disability/disorder portrayed in the movie and, most importantly, the impact this condition has on the person’s development.
2. Prove your thesis by briefly describing the character’s disability or health condition. Apply scholarly research about the disability to detailed observations of the character as evidence, using specific examples of how the disorder is portrayed by the character.
3. Prove your thesis by describing the impact on the character’s developmental tasks. This is the most important part of the assessment and should include the following points:
a. Identify (approximately) the character’s age and life stage (young adulthood, early childhood, etc.) and provide a very brief summary of the typical physical, cognitive, social, and emotional characteristics that occur during this life stage. Include any relevant major developmental milestones in relation to the character. Santrock references will be useful here.
b. Identify at least three ways the person’s health condition or disability impacted their development with regard to physical, cognitive, social, or emotional issues. Consider treatment and any stigma as part of this analysis.
4. Prove your thesis by describing the impact of at least two cultural elements that present themselves in the movie. Identify how the setting of the movie (year, time, and place) impacts the person and his/her experience of the disability and consider whether this representation is accurate. This analysis could include specific cultural elements and beliefs, or broader factors related to geography, age, ethnicity, religion, prevalent mindsets, and political climate. Stigma and discrimination may be relevant here.
5. This paper is an assessment of your writing skills. Use third person (no “I”) and pay attention to structure, clarity, flow, and mechanics like grammar and punctuation. Use an introduction to present your thesis, and a conclusion to complete your analysis; proofread for spelling, accuracy, and cohesion.
6. This paper is not a movie review. A description of the movie is not necessary. Do not use a review or any published analysis of your movie, as it will not count as a scholarly reference.
7. APA Reference Guidelines: This paper should reference at least 4 sources in addition to your text by Santrock. This should include at least two scholarly journal articles. You may also use book chapters, and one scholarly, well-credentialed website (1 maximum) to support your statements regarding the accuracy of the portrayal of the disability in the movie. You may also cite the movie but, again, don’t count it as scholarly.
Please make sure you have corrected the references from Paper #2 for final copy.
8. Format guidelines: Paper must be typed, double spaced, with one-inch margins and with a font no less than 12 pt. Use a cover page as per APA style discussed in class, with name, page numbers, title, date, class, etc. NO running header and NO abstract needed. Just upload by due date and time.
NOTE – Course Hero and other databases will be cross referenced, including past papers from this class, and any form of plagiarism will result in a grade of zero for this paper.

Reflection: Inclusion – A Comprehensive Categorization of Employee Outcomes

Readings attached. Paper instructions below. No paragraph indentions.

Overview (First Paragraph)

Provide an overview for each of the video and readings. Summarize the central propositions, assertions, or
evidence that is provided. Identify the important terminology and their meaning. List important take-aways or
practical implications. (Note: you may use the learning objectives posted in the weekly itinerary and with each
video and reading to help to organize and focus what you want to include in your overview summary.)
(1) What is the central message and common elements of the learning experience across the instructor’s
presentation and readings as a whole for the week’s unit?
(2) For each of the video and readings, what are the central propositions, assertion, or evidence? What was the
basis of the logic that was provided to support the assertions?
(3) What new terminology was introduced or clarified? What was the meaning of the terminology?
(4) What practical implications or take-aways were offered?
Experiential Learning Reflection (2nd Paragraph)
Discuss a common real life experience specific to the topic of the reading. You must have one experience from which you are able to show the connections to the learning content. You must explicitly show the connections between the elements
of the experience and the learning content and how these connections created new or enhanced understanding.
(5) What is an experience in which this topic play out (i.e., critical incident technique)?
• What was the context?
• Who were the actors and what were their formal or informal roles?
• What exactly happened – what did each of the actors do?
• Why do I think each of the actors acted in the way that they did?
• What were the consequences of the actions (attitudinal, behavioral, organizational)?
• What was the original learning or insight gained from the experience?
Were there follow up experiences that demonstrated what I learned from the original experience and was able to apply
(6) How did the learning content for the week show reading up in this experience?
• What were the specific elements of the learning content?
• How did each learning content element show up in the experience (connect the dots)?
(7) What new insights or understanding did systematically applying the learning content generate?
• What new insights did the learning content create when applied to the original experience?
• How did the application of the learning content change my perspective regarding what the experience was really about or how the experience should have been regarded or handled?
Critical Reflexivity (3rd paragraph)
Critical reflection recognizes and makes specific the biases that influence your perspective on the experience(s)
and how you interpret and attribute cause and consequence. Critical reflexivity requires that you step outside of yourself to assess why and how you are thinking in order to derive alternate possible explanations and understandings. Critical reflexivity should force you to see the situation from the other person’s perspective.
(8) What biases (i.e., based on prior experiences, life/career stage, lessons, motivations, cognitive, informational, or observational limitations, or norms due to gender, race, culture, etc.) did I bring to the reflection on the original experience, and how might I reconsider what happened, why it happened, and what should have been
concluded about it?
Confirmation Reflection (4th paragraph)
A confirmation reflection (a.k.a. evidence-based or active experimentation reflection) considers subsequent experience(s), observations, readings, or other evidence-based sources that confirmed, contradicted, or expanded your understanding of the original experience. Reflect on the effect of the confirmation and how it changed your understanding, behavior, or plans.
(9) What piece of external evidence, observation, or other experience can I apply to inform, validate, or challenge my newly evolving understanding?
Productive Reflection (5th paragraph)
A productive reflection refers to specific action steps you are currently implementing in your life in response to your new understandings, to definite plans you intend to implement in the future when you are in a supervisory,
managerial, or leadership role, or to career plans that you are formulating for your next career stage.
(10) What is my application of the newly developed understanding to my life? What am I changing in my current life and what is my action plan for the future?

FIN-450 Optional Earn-up Assignment

25 points

While there is no minimum word-count or specific rubric to this assignment, a reasonable amount of thought, along with concise, professional writing and a quality deliverable is expected.

For each part below:

  1. Think through, in depth, what the question, data, and calculations are telling you – how are you interpreting the information and why does it matter?
  2. Share your thoughts and findings in to one paragraph – target a one-page (in total) written executive summary.

Part 1: Business Model

What type of company is Lockheed-Martin (manufacturer, wholesaler, retailer, service, or a combination thereof)?  How does this play into the company’s sales and customer service strategy?

About Us | Lockheed Martin

Part 2: Financial Performance

Using data from Lockheed-Martin’s income statement:

What was the percentage change in total revenue from 12/31/2021 to 12/31/2022?  What do you think drove this?

What is the cost of revenue as a percent of sales for 12/31/2021? For 12/31/2022?  Is this a positive or negative trend?  What do you think contributed to the change?

What is the Net Income Common Stockholders as a percent of sales for 12/31/2021? For 12/31/2022?  Is this a positive or negative trend? What do you think contributed to the change?

Using data from Lockheed Martin’s balance sheet:

Lockheed Martin Corporation (LMT) Balance Sheet – Yahoo Finance

How much did Lockheed-Martin’s working capital position change from 2019-2020? 2020-2021? 2021-2022?  What do you think contributed to this?  Does it make sense (based on your assessment of Lockheed Martin’s industry type)?  Why or why not?

Part 3: Required Return and Valuation

Calculate Lockheed-Martin’s required return using the CAPM model with the following inputs:

Risk free rate (10-year treasury)        3.9%

Market return (SPY 10-year avg)        11.5%

Intel’s beta                                          .68

Lockheed-Martin paid the following quarterly dividends:

Lockheed Martin Corporation (LMT) Stock Historical Prices & Data – Yahoo Finance

What is the average annual dividend growth rate from 8/6/19 to 2/6/23? Assume that growth rate continues. Using the dividend growth model and required return, what does the model say Lockheed-Martin’s stock should be valued at?

Part 4: Assessment

Investor Overview | Lockheed Martin Corp

Based on your review of the company, its financial performance, risk profile, and dividend pay-out, do you think the current LMT share price of $475.75 is fairly priced?  Why or why not?

Would you buy the stock at its current price?  Why or why not?

anti-imperialism

anti-imperialism

Option 1: What motivated anti-imperialism in the Global South (Africa, Asia, and to some extent Latin America), and what were the one or two reasons it became more prominent during the interwar period? Consider your answer within the broader context of international affairs during this period.

write a one or two sentence thesis as a standalone paragraph (no introduction or background hook needed), then support your thesis with two well-constructed paragraphs that 1) support the thesis, 2) advance cohesive arguments within the individual paragraphs related to the thesis, and 3) are backed up by specific evidence (events, individuals and their ideas, specific quotes, numbers, etc). There is no need for a conclusion. Make sure to be precise, concise, and consistent in your argument, including as many details as you need to make your point. I expect you will draw on evidence from appropriate reading, lectures, and the primary sources

Foundations of Strategic Human Resource Management

Foundations of Strategic Human Resource Management

This week we read George, Walker & Monster’s (2019) Meta-Analysis “Does Strategic Planning Improve Organizational Performance?” We also read in the Mello text about the value of human assets in business strategy. Based on this week’s readings, please answer the following questions. Answer them from a business lens (not just your own position) and consider HR’s role in business strategy.
1. Does your organization create value based on strategic planning/management? Consider how HR processes and policies, HR functions, and alignment serve business objectives. Where do you see value creation within your HR function, and based on the research, how does this impact organizational performance? If your organization does not create value based on strategic management, or if HR is not aligned with the overarching strategies, discuss how you would improve this within the business and/or HR function. (If you are not currently working in an HR department, think of an example from your previous work experience or a relevant company you have read about. Be specific with your examples.)
2. What business metrics might be used to monitor the success of these programs, at the organizational level and HR level?
3. Does your HR Department regularly refer to academic research when working to solve problems and create value? If yes, provide some examples and describe the impact. If no, how could you encourage this practice in the future? Be specific with examples of how HR research could be applied to specific problems or challenges being faced now.
Please reference a minimum of two resources and use APA in-text citations and referencing in your post. You will also respond to at least one classmate using the RISE model of feedback (Reflect, Inquire, Suggest & Elevate). Find RISE and other resources here.

Empowering Local Partners to Prevent Violent Extremism in the United States

Empowering Local Partners to Prevent Violent Extremism in the United States

Instructions
For this progress paper you will develop a college level research paper addressing both of the following topics:

In 2011, the U.S. Government released the first ever (and only) strategy to specifically address homegrown violence inspired by radical ideologies (Empowering Local Partners to Prevent Violent Extremism in the United States) which was followed by a more detailed Strategic Implementation Plan for Empowering Local Partners to Prevent Violent Extremism in the United States. These documents resulted from the identification of violent extremism and terrorism inspired by al-Qaeda as the “preeminent security threats” to the United States. Analyze this strategy and evaluate its effectiveness today to deal with the full range of domestic terrorism threats including from right wing, left wing/anarchist (Antifa) and Jihadi homegrown threats. Describe what elements you think are missing or should be reinforced in order to have a comprehensive and effective strategy to deal with homegrown terrorist attacks (regardless of the underlying ideology or political motivation). [See note]
Terrorism is politically motivated violence against non-combatants in order to spread fear (terrorize) and to force some change in policy. Terrorists attack indirectly (in civilian disguise) and against “soft targets” in order to strike fear and get attention to gain support for their cause (recruits, funding, propaganda). They seek revenge, renown, and reaction and are all about scaring civil society and making themselves known. So global news media agencies and the internet are both perfectly suited tools for terrorists to spread their message. How can we reduce terrorist use of the media and the internet as a tool for their evil purposes? Address both the media and the internet separately in your answer.
Note: This course is focused on politically motivated violence that is commonly called terrorism, and which always has some purported underlying cause. Do not address deranged massed shooters with serious mental dysfunctions as that is well outside the scope of this course. These people cannot be deterred and many often expose ideology as a reason when that is really just a distraction from the real proximate cause of the attack – their mental illness.

Technical Requirements

Your paper must be at a minimum of 6-8 pages (the Title and Reference pages do not count towards the minimum limit).
Scholarly and credible references should be used. A good rule of thumb is at least 2 scholarly sources per page of content; however, a minimum of ten (10) scholarly sources are required to support your paper.
Type in Times New Roman, 12 point and double space.
Students will follow the current APA Style as the sole citation and reference style used in written work submitted as part of coursework.
Points will be deducted for the use of Wikipedia or encyclopedic type sources. It is highly advised to utilize books, peer-reviewed journals, articles, archived documents, etc.
All submissions will be graded using the assignment rubric.

Dilemmas in the Deterrence of Terrorists

Dilemmas in the Deterrence of Terrorists (Chapter 4 in The Counter Terrorism Puzzle)

Write a research paper addressing the following global terrorism issues:

In week 3, we discussed the Dilemmas in the Deterrence of Terrorists (Chapter 4 in The Counter Terrorism Puzzle). Why is deterring terrorists a challenge? Do you think terrorists can be deterred? Address both sides of the argument (through diplomacy, information, military, economic, financial, intelligence and law enforcement (D.I.M.E.F.I.L.) means).
The U.S. Government published the most recent National Strategy for Counterterrorism (NSCT) in October 2018. For this second topic you are to develop a framework for a brand-new National Strategy for Counter Terrorism of the United States. Address both domestic (homeland) components and offensive overseas elements. Make sure to address how you will balance domestic security with civil liberties at home and how you will be effective in dealing with terrorists abroad without creating even more terrorists in the process. Make sure your framework employs all elements of national power (diplomatic, informational, military, economic, intelligence, law enforcement, financial). Also describe the importance of gathering all sources of domestic and overseas intelligence for effective counter terrorism efforts. You do not need to write an entire strategy, just the outline or framework for a new NSCT; an executive summary or details of your pillars or plan of action for a comprehensive strategy.
Technical Requirements

Your paper must be at a minimum of 5-6 pages (the Title and Reference pages do not count towards the minimum limit).
Scholarly and credible references should be used. A good rule of thumb is at least 2 scholarly sources per page of content; however, a minimum of eight (8) scholarly sources are required to support your paper.
All submissions will be graded using the assignment rubric.

week 2 709

A significant challenge for many dissertation writers is deciding on a research topic. Oftentimes, many are not sure where to begin. Choosing a topic involves thinking from a broad perspective, then narrowing your thinking. If you think too broadly, you will have trouble focusing. If you think too narrowly, the topic will have little relevance to an academic or professional audience. Start by looking at the topic from a broad perspective, then narrow in to find possible areas of focus.

As you are thinking about topics, ask yourself the following questions:

    • Am I really interested in the topic? Am I willing to become an expert on this topic by spending months—even years—researching and writing about it?
    • Will the topic add to the body of knowledge in the field?
    • Is the topic timely or is it outdated and overdone?
    • Is the topic something I can research in a reasonable amount of time or is the time commitment too great for a doctoral dissertation?
    • Is the topic accessible? Will I have to travel far and wide to collect data?
    • Do I have the finances to carry out the research needed to complete a dissertation on this topic?

Access and Protected Populations

An important aspect of choosing a topic is access or the ability to conduct your study. For example, you may want to know how leaders of a particular company use social media to increase sales, but they are unwilling to talk to you.

When selecting a topic for your study, consider whether conducting the study would involve talking to protected classes of people or vulnerable populations. Federal regulations require protecting the welfare of vulnerable subjects who may not be of age, have the authority or ability to speak for themselves, or are vulnerable in any other way. Protected classes include the following:

    • children or minors under age 18
    • prisoners
    • pregnant women
    • people with cognitive impairments or mental disabilities
    • people who are educationally or economically disadvantaged

If you are considering conducting research with any of the protected classes of human subjects, consider options for completing your study in a different way. For example, instead of talking to minor children, talk to their parents. There are many creative options!

Wk 2 – Summative Assessment: Article Analysis and Research Considerations []

Assignment Content

Knowing the difference between applied and basic research is necessary to develop an effective research study. The difference between basic research and applied research lies in their respective aims.

    • Basic research refers to research aimed at acquiring new, fundamental knowledge and theoretical understanding of basic human and other natural processes without any particular application in view.
    • Applied research also is conducted as an original investigation to acquire new knowledge, but it is primarily directed toward practical objectives with the aim of providing relatively immediate solutions.

This assignment has two parts. Complete Parts 1 and 2 below.

Part 1: Article Analysis

Locate an applied research article on a topic in your program of study (e.g., DBA, DHA, DM, EDD) from the University Library. To familiarize yourself with the different applied designs, review the qualitative and quantitative research designs in the CDS Dissertation Guide on CDS Central.

Key words to use while searching for an article in the library might include action research, program evaluation, etc.

Write a 350- to 525-word analysis about what makes the study discussed in the article applied versus basic research and do the following:

    • Identify the article topic (e.g., education, business, health care) and provide a link to the article.

Perspectives on Telehealth for older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic us…: University Library (ebscohost.com)

    • Explain how the study in the article addresses a real-world, practical problem.
    • Explain how the results of the study could impact people’s lives, work, health, and/or general well-being.

Part 2: Access and Permission Considerations

An important aspect of choosing a topic is access or the ability to conduct your study. For example, you may want to know how leaders in a particular company use social media to increase sales, but they are unwilling to talk to you. If you are not able to gain access to the leaders, then you will not be able to gather the data you need for your study.

Additionally, when selecting a topic for your study, consider whether conducting the study would involve talking to protected classes of people or vulnerable populations.

Write a 250- to 500-word summary in which you:

    • Identify what permissions will you need to access the people, organizations, and/or data to conduct your research.
    • Identify who you might need to consult to gain permission to conduct your study.
    • Explain what potential issues you might encounter.
    • Explain how you might address these potential issues.

Compile Part 1 and Part 2 into one document for submission.

Use the provided Student Paper Template to ensure proper APA formatting.
