1. It’s important to understand the manager’s power and dilemma in choosing

to delegate decision making.

a) What does it actually mean when a manager says they “delegated a hiring decision to their assistant”? 3 pts.

b) Briefly discuss 2 benefits of delegating decision making for the manager

and/or the organization. 6 pts. c) However….if there so many benefits…….why wouldn’t you practice it

2. We have covered the components of EXPECTANCY THEORY (expectancy,

valence, and instrumentality) and the concept of self-efficacy, all important to understand if you are going to have any insight into performance motivation of employees. For this question, I want you to focus specifically on the concepts of expectancy and self-efficacy. If you look at the definitions of each, these concepts are definitely related. a) So….to be sure we are on the same page, please restate/give me the

definitions of both expectancy and self-efficacy . 8 pts. b) Next, let’s say I am your boss and I am a big believer that self-efficacy

and expectancy are the keys to performance motivation, and I am seeing that some of our employees don’t seem to be performing to their potential. 3. The Job Characteristics Model explains how employee engagement and motivation are affected by dimensions of work tasks and the interpersonal demands of the job called job characteristics. Looking at the five job characteristics of the model…..choose 3 and discuss HOW you might change
