Feedback to the technician (RBT)

Feedback to the technician (RBT)

While giving the feedback to the technician (RBT) you noticed the technician is acting disinterested or bored by not looking at the supervisor, rolling her eyes, turning her face to the side away from the supervisor, and interrupting the supervisor as they were speaking. How would you address this situation and what strategies would you use to address and correct this behavior?

The most effective strategy to address these behaviors is to address them head on by saying something like, “I notice that you are not paying attention or are even acting as though you are bored. I want to make sure I have your complete attention when I am speaking to you.” It is very important that the technician realizes the supervisor means business and has their best interest in mind. After the technician has been through this process, then it will be easier for them to stop these behaviors because they will know that no matter what, the supervisor means business. Another effective strategy is to find a way to praise the technician when they are paying attention. This strategy also works with children, when they are doing something right or doing something well then they need to be praised so they continue this foreign behavior or skill. I would give the technician feedback by saying, “I appreciate you listening and watching carefully because that is a new skill for you.
