1.Introduction Paragraph – Should give a brief description of who you are and how you became interested in medicine.

Below I will be giving a brief introduction about myself *** I am providing some info you can use but please do some research to help you as this is just to give you an idea about me.

About me:

My story is about a young girl that grew up in an immigrant family that faced many adversities early on her life. At the age of six, my parents decided to flee my home country (Jordan) and move to the United States to provide a safe living for my sibling and I. The first adversity we encountered was language barrier. No one in my family spoke English and from the perspective of a young girl moving to a country where my native language isn’t spoken means I must take it upon myself and quickly learn the language to help my parents survive and be able to live their lives comfortably. After my teacher noticed the will and motivation I had to learn the English language she would go out of her way and meet up with me every day after school to give me one on one lessons. Thanks to her my confidence was built and I was able to learn English in 3 months and be quick on my feet to help my parents with everything they need. Seeing the dedication she had really inspired me and showed me that if you do something you love you will always give it your best and be able to be there for other people when needed.

Medical, Science, and helping others have always been an interest to me.

Ever since I was a kid my I was always the one that loved to help everyone and had a strong desire to help and put a smile on people’s faces and that’s where the love of Medicine came along. I grew up in a poor community that people barely had enough money to eat and pay their bills and even though I didn’t come from a wealthy family we would always help the less fortunate around us. As I got my first job I made a promise to myself that out of every paycheck I get I take a percentage of it to the side and help the less fortunate people of my community with their health needs and that is something so simple that I can do but also can make a big difference in ones life.

2. (The Discovery)  In this paragraph you want to explain how you discovered the PA profession. Did you work with PA’s? Was a family member or friend a PA? and what was it about the profession that peaked your interest and made you want to look into it as a potential career for yourself?

In my time working as a medical assistant I had the chance to work with Physicians, Physician Assistants, and Nurse practioners, and I found myself drawn to the interest of working with the physician assistant more than any other provider. (Please elaborate furthermore about peaked your interest and made you want to look into it as a potential career for yourself?)

My experience through working:

Throughout my experience working as a medical assistant at a medical center, I was lucky to have witnessed and be part of such a life saving event that had occurred  which made a big impression on me and made me realize indeed physician assistant is the right career for me. It was a slow day in the office as I just finished triaging my patient walking back to my desk  Mrs. Stacey-Ann walks in for her annual visit appointment and as she was checking in I quickly noticed she was out of breath as the words were barely coming out of her mouth  sweat coming down her for head and she seemed very anxious. Mrs. Stacey-Ann was scheduled with one of the new providers different than the one I was working with which means a different medical assistant was responsible to take her in and triage her but after noticing her symptoms I quickly took action as I did not want her to be waiting in the waiting room in such condition. I called Stacey to one of rooms so I can check her vitals and ask if she has any chief complaints and also offered her some water . Stacey verbalized to me that shes just here for her annual check up with no medical history and doesn’t have any symptoms and the only thing is she suffers from is anxiety. As I was manually checking her vitals her blood pressure was reading 220/160 which is extremely dangerous and I started to get worried because I know Hypertension is a silent killer. I quickly grabbed my coworker and had her check it and as she was doing that I went to the provider and notified him right away. When I notified the provider he didn’t seem to be that concerned and in fact he finished with whatever he was doing then attended to Stacey. When I saw his reaction I started to worry and felt concerned for Stacey that I went back to the doctor and told him to please come take a look at her and maybe give her some clonidine and we can put her in observation to see if her blood pressure drops. After attending to her the doctor gives me the approval administer Clonidine to her and observe her pressure. After 30 minutes go by as I kept checking her pressure it was not dropping but only getting higher the doctor was ready to send her home and mrs Stacey saw the concern on my face and asked me what do I recommend for her to do  that’s when I took the initiative and told her  if she was my mother I would take her to the hospital ASAP.  I called the medical director of the office and informed him of the situation and he also agreed with me and told me to initiate the hospital transfer papers. I informed Stacey and I even asked my manger if I can drive her to the emergency room as it was right across the street but because of protocol I was unable to. I walked with her to the elevator and she was very anxious and I walked her to her car and from distance watched her make the turn into the hospital. Moving on with my day I was still thinking about mrs. Stacey so the next day I gave her a call and she informed me she was admitted immediately in the hospital and the doctor who was taking care of her told her “you are a walking time boom and if you didn’t come to the hospital the time you did no telling what could have happened.” As she informed me of that I smiled and cried as I felt I was a reason in saving her life. He told me the doctor at the hospital told her whoever sent you here was an angel sent from God. This experience solidified my decision to why I want to become a physician assistant.
