To what extent did the Freedom Rides (1961) serve as a model for later civil rights actions (until 1965)

Freedom Rides were a series of nonviolent protests against segregation in interstate buses and interstate trains. The campaign eventually ended segregation in the 1960s. Freedom Riders risked injury, torture and death to fight for equal rights. Freedom rides served as an example of how civil rights protests could be carried out nonviolently. There are some similarities to later civil rights movements like March on Washington which would happen years later.
